What you need to follow along
- PostgreSQL 9.5 (preferably)
- PostGIS 2.2 binaries installed in your PostgreSQL 9.5 instance. Refer to http://www.postgis.us/presentations/postgis_install_guide_22.html for details
- PostgreSQL administration tools pgAdmin for novices and psql for experienced. We'll be using mostly pgAdmin
- Map Viewing tool preferably QGIS http://qgis.org or OpenJump http://www.openjump.org/
- Scripts and data we'll be using: http://www.postgis.us/downloads/maptime.zip
Extract files
- Create a folder to store the files
- Extract maptime.zip into this folder
Creating a database
- Follow the steps in create_database.sql
- The script to load data is load.bat (for windows users), and a load.sh (for *Nix users) which will import data from data folder. Change paths and settings accordingly.
